What is In This Issue about?
In recent years, computational psychiatry and intracranial neuroscience have emerged as two burgeoning fields that are contributing significantly to our understanding of the human brain in both health and disease. Here, Saez and Gu (pages 661-670) propose a new interdisciplinary field-invasive computational psychiatry-that leverages the strengths of both computational modeling and invasive recordings such as intracranial encephalography and deep brain stimulation in humans. The authors use depression as a test case to demonstrate the value of combining these approaches and suggest future directions for basic and clinical research.A recent trend in neuroimaging combines pattern classification with neuroimaging data to enhance spatiotemporal resolution of observed brain activity. Here, McFadyen and Dolan (pages 671-680) discuss how this approach applied to psychiatric research can uncover crucial dynamics of neural processes underlying complex behavior and cognition. The authors suggest that neuroimaging techniques with high temporal resolution, such as magnetoencephalography, analyzed using "decoding techniques" involving machine learning, may play a distinctive role in shedding lig
