What is Understanding the Calvin Cycle Process about?
The light-independent reaction, also known as the Calvin cycle or carbon fixation, occurs in the stroma of chloroplasts. Carbon dioxide combines with RuBP and is catalyzed by RUBISCO to form two glycerate phosphate molecules. ATP provides energy to reduce the glycerate phosphate into two triose phosphate molecules, oxidizing NADP in the process. The triose phosphates can then be converted into organic compounds like glucose. RuBP is regenerated from triose phosphate using ATP, and six cycles of this process
