What is Cyanobacteria and Fish Tissue Toxicity about?

The study investigates the presence of cyanobacteria and their toxic metabolites, specifically microcystins, nodularin, and saxitoxins, in fishponds in Serbia and their effects on fish tissue. Water samples from 13 fishponds showed contamination with these cyanotoxins, and histopathological analyses revealed significant damage to the tissues of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). The findings highlight the need for monitoring cyanotoxins in aquaculture to mitigate risks to fish health and human consumption.
