About this document
Classical and Quantum Theories of Thermal Radiation by Ganantha Marsyafa is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Thermal radiation is electromagnetic radiation emitted by objects due to their temperature. Classical theories of electromagnetism and thermodynamics led to the Rayleigh-Jeans formula to describe blackbody radiation, but it failed at short wavelengths, known as the ultraviolet catastrophe. Max Planck resolved this by proposing that oscillators could only emit or absorb energy in discrete quantized amounts proportional to their frequency, introducing the constant h now known as Planck
