Concept maps are generally graded using rubrics that assess criteria such as concepts, hierarchy, relationships, and examples. Rubrics take two main forms - one that analyzes certain traits using predetermined criteria, and one that analyzes the entire product using predetermined characteristics. Several rubrics were presented that evaluate concept maps based on concepts, groupings, hierarchy, branching, propositions, and overall structure.
