This study investigates the phenotypic causes of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) by analyzing both anatomic and nonanatomic contributions in a cohort of 75 patients. Results indicate that OSA is multifactorial, with 69% of patients exhibiting nonanatomic traits such as low arousal thresholds and high loop gain, suggesting that these factors are significant in the pathophysiology of OSA. A proposed three-point scale aims to guide future therapeutic approaches tailored to individual patient characteristics.
