What is Mandatory Retirement Age for Firefighters about?

The Circular LG(P) 05/2024 announces an increase in the mandatory retirement age for retained firefighters to 62 years, effective from 19 August 2024. This change follows government approval on 5 March 2024 and is part of new legislation under the Courts, Civil Law, Criminal Law and Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2024. Existing interim measures allowing retirement at 60 will remain for those already benefiting from them, but will not apply to new applicants.
