This study investigates the virulence factor (VF) gene profiles of Escherichia coli bacteraemia isolates from immunocompetent and neutropaenic patients. Results indicate that isolates from immunocompetent patients with urinary tract infections (UTIF) have significantly more VF genes compared to those from non-UTIF and neutropaenic patients. The findings suggest that the diversity of E. coli strains must be considered in future vaccine development to effectively address site-specific diseases.
