The story follows a caterpillar from hatching from an egg through its various life stages. It begins as a tiny caterpillar that eats through different foods each day of the week - 21 apples on Monday, 22 pears on Tuesday, etc. By Saturday it has eaten 26 slices of cake, cupcakes, lollipops, and biscuits and has a stomach ache. The next day it eats one leaf and becomes a big, fat caterpillar. It then spins a cocoon and emerges two weeks later as a beautiful butterfly.
