About this document
Origins and Beliefs of Rastafarianism by Kinda Harris is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Rastafarianism originated in Jamaica in the 1930s based on the teachings of Marcus Garvey. It holds Haile Selassie I, the emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974, as God incarnate. There are three main sects - the Nyahbinghi Order, Bobo Shanti, and Twelve Tribes of Israel. Rastafari culture includes dreadlocks, avoidance of certain foods, smoking cannabis, and reggae music. It remains an important religious movement today despite facing discrimination in its early years.
