Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist born in 1856 in the Austrian Empire. He is best known for his contributions to the design of modern alternating current electricity supply systems. After studying engineering and physics in the 1870s, Tesla gained experience working in telephony and helped develop the new electric power industry.
