What is Analysis of Compressibility and Mechanical Behavior of Red Clay Considering Structural Strength about?

Red clay is the main geometrical as the foundation of buildings, dam, and excavation which are usually designed and constructed without concern of its structure with depth, leading to a design which is not reasonable and a massive waste of resources. The research reports investigations carried out on red clay to study its compressibility, strength and stress path, and their variation with depth. The effect of structure with depth on red clay has been discussed and the mechanics were investigated by undrained consolidated triaxial tests, X-ray diffraction, and one-dimensional compression tests. This research determined a gradual destructuration process by a new normalized method. The change of structure with depth has been analyzed which is different from saprolitic soil caused by its special weathering process. Higher strength parameters were consistent with regular clay content. The compressibility and strength were shown to strongly depend on the depth, and hardening phenomenon has been observed for all specimens at the laboratory scale. In addition, triaxial tests with a varying number of consolidations were conducted to assess the influence of the consolidation. The results rev
