This dissertation analyzes how three avant-garde journals from the 1920s in Latin America - Martín Fierro from Argentina, Revista de Avance from Cuba, and Amauta from Peru - constructed Latin American cultural identity in their poetic and programmatic texts. The dissertation contextualizes the historical period of each country and analyzes the avant-garde production and discussions of identity in each corresponding journal.
