Tom, a 13-year-old boy, misses his bus to New York when he looks at a clock in a station cafe that is reflected in a mirror, making it appear to be going backwards. He sees the time as 20 to 12 but when he looks again it is half past 11, so he thinks he has more time before his bus leaves when in fact less time remains. As a result, he misses his bus which does not leave for another hour. Since then, he has not liked mirrors.
