What is Oligochaeta: Anatomy and Locomotion about?
Oligochaetes such as earthworms move through peristaltic contractions of circular and longitudinal muscles, extending and retracting chaetae. They have a simple nervous system with two nerve cords and five giant axons. Sense organs include tubercles and photoreceptors. Oligochaetes feed on dead organic matter through a straight digestive tract with a pharyngeal bulb and gizzard or crop. Gas exchange occurs through diffusion across the moist body wall. Excretion is via metanephridia in each segment.
