About this document

Melting Point of p-Nitroaniline: 139°C by Jessica Ellis is a document available to read on EtoBox.

The document describes an experiment to separate and identify benzoic acid, 4-nitroaniline, and naphthalene from a mixture using acid/base extraction. A 0.292 g sample was dissolved in dichloromethane and extracted with hydrochloric acid. Sodium hydroxide was then used to extract benzoic acid and 4-nitroaniline, which precipitated out upon making the solutions acidic and basic, respectively. Benzoic acid weighed 0.074 g with a melting point of 119°C. 4-Nitroaniline weighed 0.040 g with a melting point of 13
