What is Use of Ball Milling for the Synthesis of Biologically Active Heterocycles about?
The technological and scientific challenges coupled with environmental concern have prompted interest in simple, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient procedures for the synthesis of biologically active molecules and materials. During the last decade, ball milling has emerged as a powerful tool in effecting chemical transformations in a greener way. However, mechanochemical synthesis, which involves reactions conducted by grinding solid reactants with no or minimal solvent in a ball mill, is less explored in comparison to other techniques such as microwave and ultrasound. Remarkably, during the last 5 years the interest in this technique grew tremendously because of its several advantages toward development of sustainable methods. Thus ball mill has become a regular tool in academy and industry. On the other hand, heterocyclic compounds occupy a major space in the domain of modern medicines. Thus development of an efficient methodology for the synthesis of heterocyclic molecules is always a center of interest for synthetic organic chemists. This chapter gives an overview of the application of ball milling for the synthesis of biologically active heterocycles highlighting the recent de
