Francisca Reyes-Aquino was born in 1899 in Lolomboy, Bocaue, Bulacan. She received various degrees related to education and physical education. She dedicated her career to researching and preserving Philippine folk dances, collecting dances from remote areas. She published works on folk dances and helped popularize them in schools. She received several honors for her contributions to Filipino culture and was named a National Artist in 1973, the first woman to receive this honor.
