This paper discusses using aluminum shear-links to improve the seismic resistance of structures. The aluminum links are designed to yield in shear mode and limit lateral forces on primary members while dissipating earthquake energy. Medium-scale cyclic load tests were conducted on aluminum alloy links to study hysteretic behavior and energy dissipation. The links exhibited ductile shear yielding and excellent energy dissipation.
