What is Overview of Tree Adjoining Grammar about?

Tree Adjoining Grammar (TAG) is a formalism that extends context-free grammars. TAG uses trees as the elementary structures rather than rewrite rules. TAG allows two tree operations - substitution and adjunction. Substitution inserts trees into nodes while adjunction inserts trees into the frontier of other trees. TAG is lexicalized as every tree contains at least one terminal symbol. TAG has greater linguistic expressiveness than CFGs through its extended domain of locality provided by tree structures.
