This study investigates the impact of dental amalgam, which contains mercury, on the prevalence of mercury- and antibiotic-resistant bacteria in oral biofilms. Results showed that biofilms grown on amalgam had significantly higher levels of mercury-resistant bacteria, predominantly Streptococcus mitis, with a notable proportion also exhibiting antibiotic resistance, particularly to tetracycline.
