About this document
Salem Library by Jim Scheppke is a document available to read on EtoBox.
In the fall of 2018 the management of Salem (OR) Public Library directed staff to begin to remove thousands of books from the library collection. They called it "the Big Weed" and said it was necessary because of the upcoming library renovation. An uproar from devoted library users resulted in suspension of the Big Weed in December, but now the Library Advisory Board is recommending its resumption. In this position paper, former Oregon State Librarian presents the case for ending the Big Weed.
