About this document
Colonial History of Mauritania by Mark J is a document available to read on EtoBox.
France gradually absorbed the territories of present-day Mauritania starting in the late 19th century, occupying the emirates of Trarza, Brakna and Tagant between 1903-1904. However, the northern emirate of Adrar resisted French rule longer with the help of anti-colonial rebellions, and was not finally defeated until 1912, at which point Mauritania was incorporated as a French colony and became part of French West Africa in 1920.
