A fight then breaks out between Edgar and his brother Edmund over their inheritance which leads to Edgar being kicked out into a storm while disguised as a madman. Gloucester is then tricked by Edmund into thinking he will die by jumping from a cliff but survives, though he dies of a broken heart after learning his sons turned against him.
