Zala Anbesa is a major town in northern Ethiopia located 933km from Addis Ababa. It has been the site of border conflicts between Ethiopia and Eritrea. In 1998, heavy fighting occurred near Zala Anbesa, and in 2002 an international boundary commission ruled it to be in Ethiopian territory. Zana is the name of several mountains, areas, and towns in northern and central Ethiopia. Zamirat is a town located south-west of Adwa at an elevation of 2,166 meters.
