What is Understanding Isentropic Efficiency about?

The isentropic efficiency for an expansion process is defined as the ratio of the actual change in entropy to the isentropic change in entropy. For a unit time and mass flow, the isentropic efficiency equation compares the actual enthalpy change to the isentropic enthalpy change during an expansion process. Similarly, for a compression process the isentropic efficiency equation compares the actual work input to the isentropic work input for a unit time and mass flow.
