About this document

Understanding Semiconductor Energy Bands by ajit_phys is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Semiconductors have energy bands that are very close together, including a conduction band and a valence band divided by a forbidden band. Electrons are distributed across these bands according to the Fermi function, with each energy level occupied by two electrons within a kT interval of thermal energy, and the probability of finding electrons at higher energy levels sharply decreasing with increasing energy.
