This study investigates the impact of captioned and non-captioned audio-visual materials on the pragmatic learning of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Findings indicate that both groups improved their use of polite strategies after exposure to the videos, with the captioned group demonstrating greater pragmatic appropriateness in their role-plays. The results suggest that audio-visual materials can facilitate incidental learning of L2 pragmatics, particularly when captions are included.
