The use of complementary therapies following a diagnosis of cancer is a significant and growing phenomenon and a substantial and increasing number of supportive and palliative care services in the UK are offering complementary therapies to patients and carers. These national guidelines have been drawn up for the use of managers, health professionals and others responsible for the development of complementary therapy services in supportive and palliative care with the aims of encouraging good practice and enabling the development of high quality services. The development of these guidelines has been a joint project between the National Council for Hospice and Specialist Palliative Care Services and The Prince of Wales's Foundation for Integrated Health and the work has been funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales. Based on the best available evidence, the guidelines bring together the different issues and questions that organisations face when considering the development of complementary therapy services in supportive and palliative care.
