What is Mendeleev about?
Dimitri Mendeleev is celebrated for creating the periodic table and predicting undiscovered elements. However, he also proposed the existence of an element he called "element X" that could not be isolated because it was everywhere. He theorized element X had an atomic weight millionth of hydrogen and could move freely throughout the universe. Later in his career, Mendeleev speculated about ether and the origin of petroleum in ways that were later proven incorrect.
