The standard form of the lorem ipsum text may have been established as late as the 1960s. In 1982, Dr. Richard McClintock traced the source of the passage to the 1914 Loeb Classical Library edition of De Finibus, where the Latin text on even pages breaks off on page 34 and continues on page 36 with "lorem ipsum", suggesting that the galley type was mixed up between those pages to create the dummy text used today.
