This document examines the thermal stability of urea nitrate (UN) and guanidine nitrate (GN) through isothermal heating experiments and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Activation energies and pre-exponential factors were determined for the decomposition of both the nitrate and organic components of UN and GN. Experimental results show UN is less stable than GN but more stable than ammonium nitrate. Decomposition products of UN and GN were also identified.
