This study aimed to evaluate the swelling/shrinkage behavior of Karal soil from Maroua, Cameroon when mixed with different amounts of sand. Samples of Karal soil and sand were collected from two sites near Maroua and tested in the laboratory. Identification tests showed the Karal soil was high plasticity clay classified as A-7-6. Swelling/shrinkage tests on mixtures with 0-70% sand found that mixtures with 40% or more sand exhibited reduced dimensional changes, with the 70% sand mixture showing the smallest
