What is ALBA: Latin America Integration Platform about?

The Bolivarian Alternative for the peoples of our America (ALBA) is an integration platform between Latin American and Caribbean countries created in 2004 by Venezuela and Cuba to fight poverty and social exclusion through leftist doctrines. ALBA was later joined by Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras, and holds regular summits, with its 8th held in Havana in 2009 to mark the 5th anniversary where member country leaders signed an agreement to create a regional electronic currency called SUCRE to launch in 2010.
