This study examines the relationship between subcultural identity, social support, reputation, and psychological outcomes among young people in Japan. It finds that identity related to anime, idols, and hip-hop are positively associated with anxiety, aggression, depression, and suicidal thoughts, while fashion and sports identities show no association.
