What is On Snap Cavitation Instabilities for a Particular Class of Biomaterials about?

The formation of voids that were not previously detected inside the material is known as cavitation. In this paper we focus on cavity formation in fiberreinforced incompressible non-linearly elastic solids. In particular, the material under consideration is a base neo-Hookean augmented by a function that accounts for the existence of a unidirectional reinforcing. This function characterizes the anisotropy of the material and is referred to as reinforcing model. Previous works has dealt with the analysis of a specific reinforcing model, the so called standard reinforcing model, that is a quadratic function that depends only on the fiber reinforcement stretch. Here, the reinforcing model examined is a power law that depends only on the fiber stretch. The exponent of the power law is denoted as n. This power law material may be interesting to model biomaterials that are reinforced by collagen fibers, in particular, to characterize the mechanical behavior of collagen in arterial walls and has been introduced by Horgan and Saccomandi (2005). One of the most significant mechanical features of collagen is that these fibers cannot support compressive loads. Furthermore, as the arterial tis
