What is GPON Technology Overview and Benefits about?

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) provides higher bandwidth than traditional PON technologies through the use of larger, variable-length packets. It standardizes downstream bandwidth of 2.488 Gbps and upstream bandwidth of 1.244 Gbps. GPON uses GEM encapsulation to efficiently package user traffic and prioritize delay-sensitive traffic like voice and video. It supports full service delivery including voice, Ethernet, ATM and leased lines over distances up to 60 km.
