What is Effect of RPA Class in Patients with Anaplastic Astrocytoma and Glioblastoma Treated with IMRT, with and without Concurrent Temozolomide about?
Materials/Methods: RapidArc plans using a pre-clinical software version (v8.2.14) , were generated for 3 patients with small (0.5 cm 3 ), intermediate (2.8 cm 3 ), and large (20 cm 3 ) VS. A dose of 12.5 Gy was prescribed to the 80% encompassing isodose. All plans were based on the Varian 120 MLC (minimum leaf thickness of 5 mm). RapidArc plans were compared with 'conventional' RS plans using either a single full dynamic conformal arc or five non-coplanar dynamic conformal arcs generated with Eclipse (Varian). Conformity indices (CI) and dose volume histograms (D2% to cochlea, brainstem) were compared for all planning techniques, as well as the treatment time after patient set-up. To evaluate the dosimetry of RapidArc, a typical Rap-idArc plan for the medium size VS was delivered with a Varian Linac and measured in a solid water phantom in 3 coronal and 3 axial planes with 5 mm separation, using double Gafchromic EBT films. All film measurements were compared with calculated dose distributions. Results: RapidArc treatment planning, which was mostly an automated procedure, could be performed in approximately 1 hour per patient. In all cases, the CI was superior for the RapidArc plan
