The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has continued providing relief to areas affected by the 2001 Gujarat earthquake. Over 1,200 volunteers have been trained in first aid. Activities include operating first aid posts at religious festivals. While drought remains a problem, water has begun flowing through canals. Security was tightened after a terrorist attack, but Red Cross activities faced little disruption.
