What is March 2019 Consumer Price Index Report about?

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures inflation as experienced by consumers in their cost of living. The CPI increased 0.4% in March driven by a 3.5% increase in energy prices, particularly gasoline which rose 6.5%. Food prices rose 0.3% and prices for all items less food and energy increased 0.1%. Over the last 12 months, overall prices were up 1.9% with energy declining 0.4% while food rose 2.1% and all items less food and energy increased 2.0%.
