What is Smart Kids with School Problems : Things to Know and Ways to Help about?

They are known as "conundrum kids": the math whiz who can't read, the budding artist who can't spell or solve a simple equation, the wonderfully coordinated athlete with the undecipherable handwriting. As the title of this book implies, they are a puzzle-smart kids, even extremely gifted ones, who do poorly in school. Learning specialist, diagnostician, teacher, and parent herself, Priscilla Vail has created a much-needed, authoritative guide to spotting conundrum kids, evaluating their problems, and using the right do and don't strategies for dealing with them in the school environment and at home. She provides specific remedial programs, such as multisensory training to improve reading and writing as well as techniques for taking standardized tests so that they work for conundrum kids instead of against them. Best of all, this optimistic book supplies effective methods to break the cycle of anger, fear, pressure, self-doubt and frustration, and makes it possible to turn school failure into school success.
