What is Chinstrap Penguin Overview about?
Chinstrap penguins are found in Antarctica and surrounding islands. They get their name from the narrow black band under their heads. They grow up to 68 cm long and weigh 3-6 kg, with males larger than females. They have black backs and white undersides for camouflage. Females lay two eggs which both parents incubate for 37 days. Chicks fledge 7-8 weeks later. They feed on krill, shrimp, fish and squid, swimming up to 80 km daily to find food in freezing waters. Their feathers and blubber keep them warm.
