Can I read Rho GTPases on EtoBox?
Rho GTPases by Michael J Lukey; Yijian Qiu; Wen-Hsuan Yang; Richard A Cerione is a book available to read on EtoBox.
What is Rho GTPases about?
The Ras-homology (Rho) GTPases were initially linked to regulation of the actin cytoskeleton, with downstream impacts on cellular morphology, polarity, adhesion, and migration. Subsequent studies have revealed that the Rho GTPases are involved in highly diverse cellular and biological functions during development, health, and disease. These include endocytosis and exocytosis, vesicle trafficking, transcriptional regulation, and cell cycle progression. Here, we present an overview of the ‘traditional’ cellular functions of Rho GTPases in regulating the actin cytoskeleton, providing a history of key discoveries in the Rho GTPase field since the identification of RhoA more than three decades ago. We then summarize the physiological roles of Rho GTPases during developmental processes including formation of the central nervous system, and we discuss how aberrant Rho GTPase signaling contributes to pathological conditions including cancer.
