Can I read Particle Simulation of Plasma Processes in the Earth's Magnetotail on EtoBox?
Particle Simulation of Plasma Processes in the Earth's Magnetotail by Daniel W. Swift is a Physics and Astronomy article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Particle Simulation of Plasma Processes in the Earth's Magnetotail about?
An electromagnetic code in the Darwin approximation is used to model processes in the current sheet of the Earth's magnetotail that may lead to the generation of electrostatic field responsible for auroral electron acceleration. It is shown that the Hamiltonian formulation has advantages over the more commonly used Lagrangian formulation of the Darwin approximation. This paper describes the specific techniques that are needed, to include the magnetic field normal to the current sheet, the presence of a convection electric field and the continuous inflow of particles from the lobe. Simulations incorporating these new features reveal new effects that may be of significant importance to the understanding of auroral and geomagnetic storm phenomena.
