What is Understanding the Hydro Mechanical Unit about?

The HMU meters and distributes fuel for combustion in the engine. It receives filtered fuel from the fuel pump and uses four valves - the FMV, bypass valve, engine shutoff valve, and staging valve - to control fuel flow, returning unneeded fuel to the pump. The HMU meters fuel and sends it through the engine shutoff valve and fuel flow transmitter to the manifolds and nozzles, but can close fuel to some nozzles under certain conditions by closing the staging valve.
