What is Female Initiation Rites Overview about?

This study examines female initiation rites across cultures to understand why they are observed in some societies and not others, and how variations can be accounted for. The author defines female initiation rites and describes the research method using a sample of 75 societies. A relationship is hypothesized between the practice of female initiation rites and the residence pattern after marriage, with rites more common in societies where girls reside with their mother even after marriage.
