Purpose/Objective(s): To observe the incidence of RP in NSCLC and esophageal carcinoma treatment using 3DCRT and investigate the association of acute RP and lung function, dosimetric parameters. Materials/Methods: From October 2006 to August 2008, 64 patients with locally advanced NSCLC or esophageal carcinoma received 3DCRT plus concurrent chemotherapy of NP or LFP. There were 23 patients with NSCLC and 41 patients with esophageal carcinoma, the prescription doses were 60Gy/30fx and 58-64Gy/29-32fx, respectively. Results: (1) For patients with esophageal carcinoma, 34.1% developed RP (9 grade 1, 3 grade 2 and 2 grade 3). For patients with NSCLC, 95.7% developed RP (9 grade 1, 8 grade 2 and 5 grade 3). There was no significant difference of FVC (forced vital capacity) and FEV 1.0 (forced expiratory volume in 1s) between esophageal carcinoma and NSCLC patients, but the D L CO (diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide) of NSCLC was significantly lower than that of esophageal carcinoma. (2) The volume of GTV, FEV 1.0 , D L CO and all dosimetric parameters (MLD, NTCP, and V5 -30 ) could predict RP according to univariate analysis.
