What is Alfred Hitchcock Presents My Favorites in Suspense about?

This anthology was the first of six hefty collections of short stories, novellas, and novels, published by Random House during 1959 and 1968. Although the presumptive editor was Alfred Hitchcock, credit for this compilation is given to Patricia O'Connell, who just happened to be Mr. Hitchcock's actress-daughter (whom he cast in "Stage Fright" [1950], "Strangers On A Train" [1951], and "Psycho" [1960]). Although not credited, this volume bears the unmistakable fingerprints of Robert Arthur (1909-1969), who "ghost-edited" Hitchcock's subsequent anthologies for both adults and young adults.Although hardly a household name, Arthur was an exceptionally fine editor of the genre fiction that Hitchcock fronted. The recipient of two Edgars for radio scripts from The Mystery Writers of America, Arthur also wrote scripts for "AH Presents" ("The Jokester") and "Thriller," hosted in 1961-62 by Boris Karloff ("An Attractive Family." "Dialogues with Death," and "The Prisoner in the Mirror"). What Arthur offered Hitchcock and Random House were two invaluable abilities: a broad knowledge of American and English mystery, horror, and fantasy fiction; and good taste. All these are on generous display
