What is Value and valuation;: Axiological studies in honor of Robert S. Hartman about?

In the form of natural science we have an ever increasing power to transform existence in any way desired. But we have no proportionate and parallel increase in range, fullness, and coherent system of values to direct the use of this power. Robert S. Hartman, in his book The Structure of Value: Foundations of Scientific Axiology and in other works, seeks to correct this dangerous, one-sided development by creating a science of values to cooperate with natural science. This scientific axiology will provide that access to values which the human mind must have to direct the use of the power of natural. science to the end of increasing indefinitely the range and fullness of values to be had in human existence. A science of values cooperating with natural science will also protect us from misusing the power of natural science in such a way as to result in the self-destruction of human existence.
