The Central Government of India, with assistance from Norway, has launched the "Yashoda Scheme" for the first time in Sambalpur, Odisha. The scheme aims to improve postnatal care by recruiting "Yashodas" to take care of newborns and mothers in hospitals. Yashodas will be paid Rs. 3,000 per month to stay in hospitals for 48 hours after childbirth. They will care for both newborns and their mothers.
